A Love Letter To Nature
Valentine is, of course, the saint we celebrate on February 14th with gestures of
devotion to our loved ones—from ostentatious gifts to the priceless offer to put the
bins out—but the origins of this beloved day are far from what we might expect.
The story of Valentine dates to the 3rd century when Saint Valentine was a priest in
Rome. Emperor Claudius II banned marriages for young soldiers, thinking they'd
make better warriors without the distractions of family life. Saint Valentine secretly
performed marriages and was eventually executed for it. Over time, his story
became tied to the holiday.
Valentine’s Day also has roots to the Roman festival Lupercalia, a celebration of
fertility. By the Middle Ages, it became a day for love and courtship, and by the
1800s, exchanging love notes (or “valentines”) became a tradition.
Valentine’s Day has evolved over time, shifting away from a sole focus on romantic
love to embracing the importance of self-love and self-care. But how do we fully
embrace self-love in a world where we’re constantly comparing ourselves to
others? In 2025, it might seem like a straightforward concept, yet practising selflove
and care is often harder than it sounds.
It’s easy to get caught up in the highlight reels of other people’s lives, especially
around this time of year, when everyone seems to have the “perfect” relationship
and the “best” way of celebrating. Self-love isn’t as simple as waking up one
morning and deciding to “love yourself”; it’s a practice that requires mindfulness
and sometimes, stepping back from the noise of comparison.
Lucille McCart, Communication Director at Bumble, puts it this way, “We are all
stressed, time poor, have financial worries, feel overwhelmed, and sometimes feel
unworthy of giving ourselves that time and focus, sometimes we don’t know where
to start.”
How to Practice a Little More Self-Love This Valentine’s (and Beyond)
Whether you are spending this Valentine’s with someone special or are simply tired
of hearing about it ad nauseam while navigating the day solo, the key takeaway is
this: self-love isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. In a world where we are constantly
bombarded with idealised images of “perfect” relationships and lifestyles, it’s easy
to forget that real love starts from within. Self-love doesn’t mean living up to some
curated version of what your life “should” look like— whether that's dictated by
social media, society's ideals, or even our own inner critic. It’s about carving out a
few moments of stillness, nourishing your body with wholesome food, or indulging
in small, comforting rituals that bring you joy, no comparison necessary.
Small, mindful acts of self-care can have a profound impact. At Dindi Naturals,
we’ve created our heart soaps as a reminder that self-care doesn’t have to be
complicated. Infused with premium plant oils, butters, and pure essential oils,
these soaps are designed to pamper your skin and soothe your senses. Made with
clay and pure plant extracts they come in a beautiful array of colours, turning an
everyday routine into a moment of indulgence. They’re the perfect gift for a loved
one—or a much-needed treat for yourself.
Whether you're celebrating with a partner, a friend, or enjoying your own company,
these soaps serve as a beautiful reminder of the love we all deserve—starting with
ourselves. Self-love doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. Sometimes, it’s sinking into
a hot bubble bath with your favourite book or finding a few minutes of quiet for some
much-needed peace. The heart soaps are here to help make that moment just a
little more special—a gentle reminder that you are worthy of care, time, and love,
not just on Valentine’s Day but every day.
So go ahead—treat yourself. You’ve earned it! ♥
