Organic skincare, our favourite native botanicals : Snowflower!

Dindi Naturals hasn't always had a skincare line, in fact our best-selling serums, moisturisers, cleansers and toning mists came about when researching and producing our range of soaps and body products.  We learnt about some of the incredible skincare benefits from native Australian botanicals and how they had been used by aboriginal communities for thousands of years for their incredible health benefits.

We have created our growing range of 100% natural, plant-based and palm oil-free skincare products from these potent native plant oils, plant extracts and essential oils.  In this series of blog posts we’re going to share with you some of our absolute favourite native plant extracts from the Dindi Naturals skincare line, so let’s dive in with one of our all time favourites…. Snowflower!

Snowflower

We use snowflower (melaleuca alternifolia), a therapeutic native Australian plant, in a range of our skincare products, in particular our serum range. This vibrant green plant which when flowering has the softest white and fluffy flowers that look like snow (hence the name!), is derived from the tea tree family and is naturally abundant in potent skin-loving vitamins and antioxidants.

Snowflower has an incredible antioxidant profile, containing 100 times the antioxidant action of vitamin C and 50 times that of vitamin E. This super plant contains a wide range of active phytonutrients (natural compounds which are beneficial to human health and help prevent various diseases), which deliver a vast array of skincare benefits.

Let’s dive into some of the many skincare benefits from using Snowflower:

  1. Brightens the skin and reduces inflammation.

High doses of vitamin C as well as quercetin are found in snowflower extract. Quercetin is a flavonol antioxidant which is known to decrease inflammation and provide protection for the skin. Snowflower extract can reduce histamine production, which results in reduced inflammation, redness and increased overall skin brightness.

  1. Reduced pigmentation

The strong anti-inflammatory properties of snowflower, abundance of vitamin C and powerful natural antioxidants kaempferol and quercetin mean that this super plant also works wonders to even out pigmentation issues of the skin, like age spots.

  1. Anti aging properties

Snowflower is abundant in an antioxidant called catechins (those powerful antioxidants that make green tea so good for us!), which fight free radicals in the body and assist in skin repair. This antioxidant works to improve collagen production, restore skin hydration after sun exposure and improve hydration in general! Snowflower also has gallic acid, an antioxidant with potent anti-aging properties, such as reducing pigmentation issues on the skin and being powerfully anti-inflammatory.

With increased collagen production, hydration of the skin and reduction of inflammation, redness and pigmentation issues as benefits,  it’s no wonder we’ve included this super-plant within our skincare range!
